Orchestration

Orchestration

This last week I’ve been working on an extraordinary piece by Claude Debussy, one of my favourite artists of all times: Bruyeres, from the Piano Preludes book II.
The original score is written for piano:

As you can see there are some parts written into 3 systems: this is very useful when you have a really wide range and keeps the score beautiful and clean.
I will attach here a recording of the piece played by one of the best piano players ever, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli:

Orchestrating means to transform this score into an orchestral piece: something I find extremely creative and satisfying. I recently bought a plugin that makes this job even better – the quality of the sounds is stunning.

I’d like to share with you the final result: today I will present it to my Orchestration professor, hoping that he will like what I did. Keep in mind that this is not a real orchestra, so unfortunately there are no such things as rubato or a conductor 😉

Also, if you’re curious, you can try to follow the music with my PDF orchestral score, that you can download below 🙂
