26 Sep Sopyu
Today I decided two things: that the sci-fi project will be an EP, and that its title will be Sopyu, that means “traveler” in the Na’vi language (the one created by Paul Frommer for Avatar).
The first song will be Vega, an original song that I composed for my former vocal group in 2015. I used a lot of recordings, like the Moon landing and some readings of poems related to the stars. I originally made this track for a contest called by the European Space Agency; for the lyrics we used quotes from Van Gogh, Antoine de Saint ExupĂ©ry, Stephen Hawking and others. Right now I’m waiting for some authorisations that I hope will come soon to be able to publish the song without any copyright infringement – I’m very attached to this track and I’d love to share it with you.
The second track will be Deep, the one I posted in the last update. I think it’s perfect to follow Vega, since it’s less dreamy and more exciting. This track makes me feel like I’m actually traveling in a spaceship among the stars.
The third track will be Space Drop, my first digital sci-fi tune. Compared to Deep, I feel like in this track the trip doesn’t have a specific direction, just like you’re wandering in the dark knowing that you won’t go back home.
The fourth track will be Detroit. I originally composed this song thinking about my mom (I don’t know exactly why, but she plays the piano, so I used that instrument for the leading part). I wanted to use a rich drum machine and I imagined a futuristic city full of androids: my inspiration came from the videogame Detroit – Become human. I have always been fascinated by the relation between human and androids and the “soul matter”, so to speak.
The last track will be Round Galaxies, my latest composition. I once again used piano but this time I chose a more “felt” sound and combined it with staccato strings. I love this track, I feel like it describes the wonder and the fear I would experience if I could travel in space. I think it’s like a rollercoaster between allure and dread, and I tried to express it with this track.
I’m really excited about this project, and I can’t wait to put it on Spotify: some finishing touches and the authorisation from the two publishers and you will be able to listen to it!
