Music for a spa?!

Music for a spa?!

When my professor listened to the tunes I did he made a peculiar request about the developing. Do you remember the jazz trio inspired by the Wanderer? Well, he asked for an arrangement in a completely different style: he wanted it to be epic and Celtic without changing the leading part (that was made by the soprano sax).

I was absolutely shocked. I honestly didn’t know what to do since epic is so not my favorite and I don’t know anything about Celtic music (I watched the Brave some years ago, does it count…?).

But you know what? I had to do it. So I did my best and came up with this:

I used a Celtic harp and a cello to start, then I gave the melody to a flute – the percussion was made by a cajon. Then I added more strings, then the timpani and some horns to give the epic feel. I wasn’t very sure but I sure tried.

When the professor listened to the track he said: “Well, it’s not epic at all. You totally missed the point. This should be used as a background music for a spa”.
We laughed very much – my professor is the sweetest and he knows very well how to interact with each one of us, it’s like he knew us through the music we make.

Then he asked for something completely new: he wanted me to make a track like Hans Zimmer and Philip Glass wrote it together. It’s a clash of titans, I know. But I couldn’t wait to make that funny experiment.
