Tang Garden: the challenge

Tang Garden: the challenge

Once the trailer was done, Gonzalo was super excited about having original music for his game. So he decided to push me further: he wanted an entire soundtrack for Tang Garden.

I tried to convince him that the work was huge, that I did not have the tools or the experience to compose a 1-hour-long soundtrack, but even worse that I didn’t know anything about Chinese traditional music, except maybe for the pentatonic scale. But Gonzalo was sure that I had to do it.

I had about 8 months to make the soundtrack. At the beginning I searched for some informations about Chinese traditional instruments; I decided to go for a modern style with some asian vibes, though I realised I could never sound somewhat authentic. I found the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and John Powell very inspiring, and I started making some music using GarageBand (an app for macOS).

Here is the link to the complete work on Spotify.
